The Dell Inspiron 1000 is a home and home-office laptop delivering the essentials for basic computing such as web-surfing, emailing, watching DVDs etc. at an affordable price. Inspiron 1000 is available in three different variations i.e. Entry Level, Mid-Range, and Higher End. Inspiron 1000 is very easy to use and it has very simple and clean design. The dimensions of Inspiron 1000 are 1.6 inches thick, 13 inches wide and 10.5 inches deep and the weigh is measured around 6.4 pounds without adapter and 7.2 pounds with adapter.

Dell Inspiron 1000 standard features 14.1 inches XGA TFT display having resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and has up to 64MB of shared graphics memory fulfilling all the basic computing needs. All the three Inspiron 1000 configurations include the Intel Celeron Processor at 2.2 GHZ with on-die 256 KB L2 cache and 400MHZ front side bus, 256/512 MB shared DDR SDRAM, 266MHz bus frequency, and 30/40 GB Ultra ATA hard drive. It is also preloaded with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and also features the standard 24x CD-RW/DVD drive.

Dell 1100 offers an external wireless card i.e. Dell 1300 Wireless PC Card, Broadcom 802.11b/g card and an external USB floppy drive. The different ports, jacks, and slots provided are 3 USB 2.0, 15-pin monitor connector, RJ-45 connector, RJ-11 connector, audio jacks-microphone in connector and stereo speakers/headphone connectors, and Type I or Type II card slots etc.

The modem and network interface included are Internal 56K capable v.92 Fax modem and Integrated 10/100 Ethernet respectively. The battery technology used is 8-cell Nickel Metal Hydride battery having capacity of 43WHr and the approximate operating time of 1.5 hours depending upon usage, whereas the Enhanced Performance system uses 8-cell Lithium Ion battery having capacity of 65WHr and the operating time of 2.5 hours approximately.
